Wyatt Killian
I LOVE reading all the birth stories and am so excited to share mine!
Original EDD 8/3/18
Ultrasound EDD 7/25/18
Born 7/22/18 @ 1933

After a very busy week of entertaining out of state family labor started almost the same exact time that the last family was flying out. We had several days of playing at the lake with a little inner tubing (crazy I know!) and hiked 3 miles up and down Gold Cord Trail in Hatchers Pass.
I was so sure that Wyatt wouldn't be making his appearance yet because I'd been having regular Braxton hicks for weeks with no change. So when I woke up 7/21 Saturday night around 11pm, to make my hourly trip to the bathroom (thank you 3rd trimester) and passed a softball sized glob of bloody mucus, I was a little skeptical that anything was happening. I tried to lay back down to sleep but started cramping and having to use the bathroom constantly. My husband Christopher had to leave for work around 430am on Sunday 7/22 and when he got up to get ready I told him that I thought labor might be close but to head in anyway. Around 7am I got our 2 year son Caleb up and ready for the day, fed him breakfast and made myself eat some eggs and toast. My stomach was feeling a little off but I still wasn't having any contractions. I had continued to have lots of mucousy bloody show throughout the night and morning and still had some cramping but nothing was intensifying yet. I called my mom to let her know that I wouldn't be meeting them at church because I didn't feel great and wanted to try to nap with Caleb later that morning/afternoon. She asked if I thought baby was trying to come today and I told her I thought something was starting but it didn't feel serious yet. She offered to come keep us company and entertain Caleb just in case things kicked in to gear. I talked to Christopher around then to let him know he was still ok to stay at work. He made me promise to call if things picked up so he could make it here in time (he had about an hour commute to make it home)
At 900 I jumped in the shower to get cleaned up and shave my legs, because we all know that's a priority! 😂 As soon as I got in the shower I started noticing some contractions and by the time I got out they were 3-7 mins apart and pretty uncomfortable! I started putting some last minute stuff in my hospital bag and threw on a comfy labor outfit. During that time I had a few contractions that made me stop what I was doing and breath though them. I called my mom to see how far out she was, called Christopher to let him know to head this way and called my mother in law Robin to see if she could come pick up Caleb (he was going to stay the night with them once I went into labor)
Around 1030 Robin came and got Caleb and my mom showed up to hang with me until Christopher got there. Things were getting more intense but my contraction pattern was still pretty irregular. Once Christopher got home I decided to try to nap and my mom went to run errands with my dad. We both laid down but after a few contractions I realized i wasn't going to be able to sleep through them. I got in the tub to labor for a while and told Christopher to take a nap if he could because it was going to be a long day/night. I stayed in the tub for a good 2 hours because it's the only thing that felt remotely comfortable. I was having a lot of pain in my back during contractions and was pretty sure Mr Wyatt was sitting sunny side up.
At about 130pm I contacted my midwife and she came over to my house to check on us and see how things were progressing. I was 3/90/0 and felt a little discouraged because I had been 2-3cm at my appt on Friday. She stayed around for about an hour and then told us we should try to go on a walk to see if that would help get things progressing. I asked her to recheck me before she left and I was 5/90/0 so that helped me mentally to know things were changing!
I tried to walk around our neighborhood but didn't make it out of our driveway! I told Christopher we should probably start heading towards the hospital because I didn't want to ride in the car during transition! We loaded up and headed towards the hospital. We made a quick stop at my inlaws house to see Caleb and give him a hug and kiss.
By 4pm we made it to the hospital and my contractions were 2-4 mins apart and still mostly in my back. After getting admitted I jumped in the labor tub and stayed there until 7pm. My mom and one of my close friends showed up right after we got there and kept us company. It was really nice to have the distraction and kept me calm and focused. I was so sure that this labor would be fast and furious because it was my second baby and everyone talks about how they are usually way faster, but I felt pretty calm and in control for most of it.
At 7pm my midwife checked me and I was 7/100/1 with a bulging bag. She said she could break the bag if I wanted to speed things up and I said yes please! At 710pm she broke my water and it was go time! By 725pm I was complete and ready to push. Pushing by far is the most terrifying part of labor to me! It is so overwhelming and painful! With my husband and Mom providing support and my midwife coaching me through pushing I brought our beautiful chunky boy into the world at 733pm. I was able to help "catch" him and pull him up to my chest ❤He weighed a whopping 9lbs and was 20" long. I didn't have to have any stitches and let me tell you that makes the world of difference for recovery! It was an amazing experience and I'm so happy with how everything went!
