My birth story 7/26/18
Miss Johnny Reneà born today! July 26th, 2018!
I went to my 40 week appointment at 40+2. I was dilated to a 2-3 and I was so excited because with my other two babies I never dilated before being in active labor! Doctor offered to do a membrane sweep, so I accepted! I was in labor an hour later around 3:30 pm!
Contractions started getting about 5 minutes apart around 10pm. I waited half an hour to call my hospital and they told me to go ahead and come in! On the way to the hospital my contractions started coming 3 minutes apart! So I was put on a monitor for about an hour and had a cervix check, but was still only 2.5 centimeters dilated, so the doctor said he would come back in 2 hours and recheck me, if my contractions weren’t dilating me they would most likely send me home. I was really upset and discouraged because at that point I had been in labor 8 hours and my body hadn’t changed. So the dr came back 2 1/2 hours later and my contractions were getting stronger and more painful. But still 2-1/2 to 3 1/2 minutes apart. He checked me and said I was at a 3. And I was so worried they were going to send me home. He said he was going to go talk to his supervisor to see what to do with me. A few minutes later, a female doctor came in to check me for a second opinion, and said I was at a strong 5. I was so excited! They admitted me and I got the epidural right away, it worked for about 10 minutes before it for some reason stopped working completely.
I had my water broken and contractions started coming on pretty strong and I told my nurse that my epidural was absolutely not working. And he came back in to try to fix it. After 45 minutes of him trying to place a new epidural, and then a spinal tap, he had to call someone else to come and try. At this point I’m at an 8 and I’m balling. I’m not screaming or anything, but it is excruciating pain. The next guy comes in and it takes him around 35 minutes to get it in. They had called an entire new team to come up and try to place my spinal tap because they just weren’t getting it. But he ended up getting it placed on his last try. The first guy kept apologizing and felt so bad. I kept telling him it was okay and it wasn’t his fault through my tears. Hahaha. I told him I understand that sometimes things like this just happen and it’s not his fault! I was just glad to have some relief at the bitter end.
I called my husband around 6 and told him it was time to come down to the hospital (he took our two younger kids home around midnight to get some sleep). And he headed to the hospital while my mom stayed with my boys. About an hour after he got to the hospital I started feeling loads of pressure to push so I told my nurse. I got checked and sure enough she was ready to enter the world! So they got the room set up and my body was doing the pushing for me, around 8:30 the midwife came in and said alright let’s do this! So I pushed one time, and she was here! Born at 8:36 am. :) she is 7lbs 10oz. 20-1/2 inches long! We are just in love with our little princess after two boys!
At 40+2 I honestly thought I was going to be pregnant until my induction date on Tuesday. I was in so much pain and miserable. But I’d do it all again for her. The pregnancy, the labor, all the pain, it really is worth it! And apparently she wasn’t too upset about being born. :)
