Burping baby, pre or post baby’s nap

So, pretty simple question. Do you typically burp your baby prior to them napping, or when they wake up (weather they’re crying or not obviously).

The reason i ask this is because i guess i got so used to and it was ingrained in me to burp baby right after every feeding, but now I’m coming to a struggle. My baby (4 months old soon) will get milky drunk and fall asleep after feeding. At first I’d still burp her but she’d wake up and make a fuss for waking her up and take even longer to fall asleep. My husband stated to just let her be and burp her when she wakes up IF she’s already asleep, he helps with the burping as well pretty often. Any words of advice? What do you all do in this scenario? Any reason holding off on burping her until she wakes up might be problematic or a safety issue (i.e. gas buildup)?
