Breastfeeding moms-did you give your baby a pacifier, how soon and was there nipple confusion?

I keep getting different information about pacifiers and am a little frustrated with the night time fussiness because she wants to suck on something (waking up every 1-2 hours to suck on me for about 5-10 minutes)
The hospital lactation consultant said to wait about 8 weeks before introducing a pacifier. 
My pediatrician said maybe 4-6 weeks. 
I have already caught her sucking on her thumb which I absolutely don’t want since it’s harder to wean a baby off a thumb than a pacifier. 
What has your guys experience been?

I literally gave it to him day 1 and we're still going strong breasfeeding at 4.5 months.

I introduced a soother at 1 week. At 19 months she still breastfeeds and sleeps with the soother. Try things, if it works for you and baby, it’s the right thing to do. Good luck mama

Both my babies went to the NICU right after birth and both times ignorant selfish nurses gave my babies pacifiers even though it specifically said on their crib cards not to. I got lucky and there wasn't any nipple confusion, then again that's probably because I threw the pacis away anytime I found them with my baby and didn't give them when we went home. My first ended up getting one back because she wouldn't sleep without it, and she was bottlefed her first 4 months (pumped and fed breastmilk), but evenually we switched to only direct nursing. This baby only takes her paci at the babysitter's and disnt have nipple confusion.

The lactation nurse told me same thing but my baby physically couldn’t soothe himself without sucking on something and who has time or wants to be a human paci?!? I had to go be seen 4 days PP and my obgyn ( his wife is a lactation nurse at another hospital and they have 9 children) well he called her to get feedback because he saw how uncontrollable my 4 day older was unless he was on me or was sucking on his hands.  They confirmed all of their children got pacis from the start/ just go with something that is age appropriate. So mine uses the newborn mum and soothie(wubbanub) we have successfully been breastfeeding 5 weeks now.

I had to look back at my sons photos to remember.. he was 2 weeks old in the photos with a pacifier. No confusion that I remember. He also had to supplement formula for the first week .. so he got used to breast, pacifier and bottle pretty quickly. If there was any confusion, he still nursed for 18 months! 🤷🏻‍♀️

My son was in the nicu. They gave him a pacifier before I even had the chance too. & there was never any nipple confusion. He would breastfeed & bottle feed with no problem.

we gave him one at day one... spit it out. he just now started taking one at 6 months old. it's handy for bedtime and car rides. but we had no nipple confusion, he wouldn't even use it, he hated it so much 😂

I started on day 3 when we got home from the hospital. I actually started a nipple shield on day 4 because this little guy made me so terribly chapped (I naively thought baby #2 would mean breastfeeding wouldn't hurt LOL🤦🏼‍♀️) Anyway, No nipple confusion despite that.  Hes 10 weeks today and my supply is perfectly fine, and he takes a bottle without issue (also had my husband and MIL feed him within first week bc my sleep deprivation was on another level). I also am able to breastfeed without a shield, but I have to do a special hold that we both hate soo pretty much the nipple shield is saving our breastfeeding relationship.  I guess I break all of the rules🤷🏼‍♀️

I gave my daughter a pacifier at two weeks. She was comfort feeding and my nipple needed a break. We never had nipple confusion. But we were using a nipple shield at the time.
