How early to start lining up daycare?

My husband and I were hoping that family would be our primary babysitters once I go back to work, but that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. I’m about 15 weeks now and we live in a midsize city with reasonable cost of living. How soon should we start trying to get into a daycare facility?

Now. You need to tour several and you can ask about their availability. I put down a deposit close to a year before I needed it and they had one opening.

Depends on where you live. We had our daughter and then toured daycares the next month and she started two months later.
But we also went to a more expensive center and there’s several in our area. All the in home and cheaper daycares were full but that’s not what we wanted for the first year anyway.

I would start now. Some places have a wait list of a year, especially if they’re in high demand. I would also tour the place a few different times. One of the centers we looked at was clean and seemed very on top of stuff. However when we went on a second tour more of the kids were in that day and awake and we didn’t like how the caregivers were interacting when all the kids were awake.

Five months ago. I was specifically advised by a town parenting committee to start looking into daycare as soon as you start ttc. The wait lists around here are 2 years on average. Call IMMEDIATELY.

Definitely start now. We waited too long and our top choices all had waiting lists from a couple months to a year long.
