Baby Monitors with Wifi??

Erica
So my husband and I were in Target looking around the other day and saw a video baby monitor, the brand was Summer I believe... Anyway it said on the box it had wifi capabilities... What exactly does that include? My husbands from Minnesota and we live in Florida so I thought it'd be neat for his parents to be able to see the baby thru that... Just not sure how it all works...

I've heard of people that are able to hack the wifi monitors and other cameras and use they to spy on people if they are creeps and to see the layout of the house to rob it. It's to nerve wracking to me.

What Mary said. People aren't securing their network properly. You just need a strong password and not to give it to anyone. I've never had my networked hacked.

They hack the monitor the same way they can hack a camera built into a computer. Yes you should be worried if you have other devices with working video on at all times.

People hack your wireless network, not the monitor itself. If you secure your network you will be fine. If not, you should worry not only about the monitor, but also using your computer and cellphone on that network.

Honestly if you're going to go with a wifi monitor, which are AWESOME, I can watch my munchkin from work, the grocery store, anywhere I want (and can give others the username and password as well), just go with a home security camera. The drawbacks are they are a tiny bit difficult to set up if your not a tech person, but not impossible, and there is no dedicated video monitor, meaning I just use my phone/iPad to watch instead of a stand alone unit, which works for me but you have to consider it. Once it's set up, it's awesome. We have this one... We bought one to look into each of the kids cribs, and even bought one for the front porch. They have a little more expensive one with a little better video quality but for us we thought these were perfect. Here is a screen shot from a live feed of my house (I'm currently at work)I really can't recommend these enough for people. My parents have the cameras linked on their phones and iPads as well, my SO has them on his android phone. It's just awesome. You can also record a short clip straight to your phone, or set it up to your computer to record 24/7.

This is exactly what I want! Awesome! I've been trying to tell DH what I want and he just isn't understanding me and he's an electrician so he sets these kinds of things up once in a while haha!

I believe the brand we are getting is iBaby. Solely for its wifi capability.

I think there'll be an app on which you, or whoever you give the "login" to can see your baby via wifi/smartphone :)
