HELP!! copper iud and spotting/bleeding

I’ve had the copper IUD since April now (so 4 months) and am currently on my 4th period having it. Since I got it, I’ve had about a week of dark brown to dark red light spotting and seriously painful cramps before my actual period begins - then when that does arrive it lasts a week or just over. This month I’ve had on/off spotting for the last fortnight and my period was due to start a couple days ago according to eve. I’m still cramping and having dark brown spotting, but today when I wipe there’s nothing there. My partner and I also use condoms as well as the IUD. I just want to know if this is ‘normal’ or to be expected 4 months into having this? I’ve had 0 problems with it other than the extensively long bleeding and cramps, I just want answers!!

UPDATE: during a panic I thought I’d check my strings, my cervix is really low but I can only feel the ends of my strings poking out - is this normal too when you’re supposed to be on your period?
