Did I do the wrong thing??
okay, so I work in a senior community, not a nursing home, my residents are very healthy and most of them dont have any memory problems or issues making their own decisions. So, generally we dont accept money from residents, I never have and I've never questioned that. But there's this couple that moved out, so they are no longer residents, they are extremely wealthy doctors that still practice. I graduated med. school as an MA a few months ago and they knew that. they're in our community visiting (they moved out about a week ago, are moving out of state, but wanted to say bye to all the staff and residents) before I left for the day they handed me a letter congratulating me and explained that they've been wanting to give this to me but wanted to wait until they were no longer residents to give it to me. they told me to wait until I got home to open the envelope. I didnt questions it, thought maybe it was like $20 and because they were so adamant and waited months to give me said $20 I thanked them and went home. when I got home I opened the envelope and found a check for $1,000. I was speechless. I make less than $2,000 a month. I told my fiance what happened and he told me to cash it. we've been going through a lot and money is tight. he said that it was a miracle, a sign that we'll be okay and that itll help us get on our feet. the check had my name on it and this family is extremely wealthy. I thought about it for so long then cashed it to pay a few bills . Do you think it was wrong? should I have voided the check or was it meant to be?
