Baby shower

Is it just me or do people think it’s rude to throw a babyshower just to get free gifts. Y best friend is organising one for me and Iv requested no gifts. I just want family and friends celebrating my little princess with food and games but on here I keep reading about people wanting them to get the stuff they need for baby. Surely you shouldn’t be having a baby if you can’t afford to buy the stuff for yourself. I’m not meaning to come accords horrible I just think it’s a bit cheeky that all🤷‍♀️
