How soon can a premature baby fly on plane?

My twins were born July 11th at 27w4d, they're still in NICU and currently now 1 month old. When they're released which could be in September or first week of October, can they go ahead and fly?

You’ll want to talk to their doctor about flying. There’s a ton of different complications that come with premature birth. So you can’t really say by this date they’ll be ok to fly. Some might be ok to fly but some might not be.

Probably once they are discharged home they will be safe to take on a plane if necessary. They have to pass a carseat trial before they go home to prove they can breathe safely in their carseat. However if they have any lingering complications like apnea when they are discharged it may not be recommended.  Your neonatologist is the best person to answer this question, but even they probably wont be able to give you the green light till your babies are close to discharge.
