No period, no bfp

When I got off birth control my periods were regularly irregular. I was getting them every two weeks. I went to the Dr at the beginning of the month and he was like wait it out another month then we can do clomid. Well I haven't had my period since! It's been 36 days. I told my dh that when we got back from Florida I would take a pregnancy test. We both tried to not get our hopes up but secretly I thought for sure I was. Just took the test and sure enough it was negative. I'm so confused!!! I don't go back to the doctor for two more weeks!! Any ideas what could be going on?!
