Baby wants comfort?

So how do u know when ur newborn is hungry or he just wants the boob for comfort? My newborn is literally eating every hour and my husband tells me he just wants the boob for comfort? How do I know if this is true, he gives me signals that he is hungry but it's crazy that he constantly eats.

Newborns won’t overeat. They may comfort nurse, where they aren’t really eating. But that’s fine too. It’s natural. It’s very comforting to them. Newborns will cue you to what they need, so just roll with it. If baby wants to nurse, let him :)

Newborns don't nurse for comfort. They nurse because their belly's are tiny and are hungry. Sometimes it's called cluster feeding and it's completely normal. Always nurse as much as your newborn wants. It keeps your milk supply flowing as well.
