Abnormal Pap?

At my first appointment with this pregnancy at 12 weeks, I was given a Pap smear. I have yearly appointments, never had a problem. Now I go back next week at 16 weeks for a colposcopy. The woman who called and told me the appointment needed to be made was so vague and didn't really tell me what to expect. I'm not freaking out but I am a bit nervous. I called and spoke with my doctors nurse and she implied it may be just because of pregnancy and a weakned immune system. Anyone have a similar experience? Almost everything I've read online points towards this being a pre-cancer check.

My mom had many abnormal paps when she was pregnant with me, never before she was pregnant with me. So they assumed it could be cancer but didn't want to do anything until after she delivered me. After she delivered me she got another pap done & it came back normal, I guess it's just something that can happen with a pregnancy. She didn't have cancer or any problems, I just caused her so many problems while she was pregnant

I had an abnormal pap a couple years ago. I had HPV too. They did more regular paps (like every 6 months for a couple years). My body fought it off naturally. I am currently 14 weeks pregnant with no problems yet!

Ahhhhhh I'm so happy!! The OBGYN had wanted me to get pregnant because she said it could reset my body and get rid of the cells. And it did!!! I'm all clear!!

Just to update: I had my colposcopy today and had to have a biopsy done on a spot he found. The biopsy itself hurt but the experience was one for the books! Thank you all for your advice and what to expect!

I had my first abnormal one a year ago, had the colposcopy and biopsy. Now I'm a few weeks I'm doing another colposcopy without biopsy. They will biopsy once baby is born. Abnormal paps happen all the time, don't worry! They knew mine was and still said I could get pregnant at my pre-pregnancy screening.

I had an abnormal pap right before I found out I was pregnant with my first. They wanted to wait and until after I delivered to do a biopsy, just to be safe and make sure the baby wouldn't be at risk. Also, sometimes you may have an abnormal pap during your pregnancy, but it may go back to normal after you deliver. Personally, mine stayed abnormal after two more paps and my biopsy showed precancerous cells. Ended up having a LEEP procedure a year after my daughters birth and they have been normal every since. Don't worry too much, the biopsy might be a bit uncomfortable but will be over quickly. Hoping the best for you!

I have had two or three. A Colposcapy Is just where they look to see if they can find any abnormal cells. It really isn't a big deal, the more uncomfortable part is when they biopsy it. It's not the end of the world.  You will be fine!  :)

I'd ask to see if they can't wait til after you deliver for the colpo. I've had it done 3 times now for my precancerous cells and it's not a big deal but I wouldn't want any biopsies taken during the colpo while pregnant. I need all that cervix to hold the baby in! Ask for more info from your md.

I had this with my last pregnancy. It was pretty uncomfortable, but it wasn't the worst thing ever. Mine came back clear.

Same situation but my doc said we could wait till after I have the baby, re test, and see if it's still abnormal. Might want to inquire with your doc about that. I've had a colpsocopy before and they are certainly nothing to worry about and no big deal, but they are not pleasant!
