Anyone having a doula?
I am trying to decide if I need a doula or not. This is my husband and my first child so we obviously have no idea what to expect in labor, etc. I have heard such mixed reviews on doulas. Some people swear by them, others have told me that they are completely unnecessary. To note* I have type 1 diabetes and I know that may complicate labor a bit. I am afraid that a doula might not understand the delicacy of that and treat me like everyone else. I have complete faith in the medical system and dr's so that isn't a concern either. If we retained her, I feel like it would be more to calm my husband's anxiety than to help me. I just feel awkward having someone in the room with me that I don't know well. I plan to have my mom there as well.
