When can baby sit?

Hi ladies! 
In my country (Bulgaria, SE Europe) mothers are recommended to put their baby in sitting position at minimum age 6 months old. 
My son tries to sit since he was 4 months old (he is 5 mo now). I told my boss (Canadian) and he said that they don’t have such recommendations in Canada. He believes our recommendations are just old midwives tales. 
Are you told to wait until minimum age in your country?

No minimum age here in the US. 
My daughter was sitting unsupported by 5 months which means we were already holding her in a sitting position well before that. 
I’ve never heard of any negative effects from sitting “too early”.

Not in the US. If they sit on their own or attempt to, then they’re ready. Right now my baby is 10m & she’s starting to walk on her own too. Apparently most ppl here say that’s too early, but 🤷🏻‍♀️ I can’t stop her.

I don’t know if any specific recommendation. My son is 3 months and we have been holding him in a sitting position for awhile. We still lay him down too, but he likes to look around, so he wants to sit up more. He can sit up with support now.

I've never heard of a minimum age lol that's super weird. But our daughter was sitting up completely unassisted at 4 months old.

I'm in U.S. and I've never heard of an age requirement. My babygirl was sitting unsupported at 4.5 months. My husband's cousin baby did not start sitting up until he was about seven months so it depends on the baby.

All babies are different and some do it early and some do it late. What I have seen from my own research is that overall it is healthier for the babies's joints and muscles long-term if you don't put them in a sitting position and instead let them achieve it on their own when they are ready.
