How effective is VCF?

It seems I have found a birth control that I can use without horrible side effects, but I'm concerned about the effectiveness of it. I can't use condoms because of severe irritation. Hormonal birth control sends me into horrible mood swings and also causes me to bleed non stop. Me and so were using the pull out method alone but he has failed to pull out twice and one of those times I got pregnant and it ended in a miscarriage. I've been trying to find something that works, but doesn't cause me to be crazy, or cause me pain during sex. I picked up VCF(vaginal contraceptive film) to try and had no ill effects from it. But is it effective?
