My doctors office always has everyone use the bathroom before ultrasounds. Not sure why they say to have a full bladder for ultrasounds

I think they only ask for a full bladder during early ultrasounds because it pushes it all up to get a better view. 
I guess it all depends on how far along you are and how high your placenta is.

So for my anatomy scan they said drink a lot of water, they only said that so they could see my ovaries. When they wanted to look at the baby, they let me pee.
