When Should I Mention My Pregnancy to My Boss?

I’m curious as to when is the right time to mention the baby to my boss. I’m still early, not even four weeks, so I don’t think I need to say anything now but when is the right time?

I have always informed my boss when I knew with both my Pregnancies mainly due to my job ( I’m a senior Nurse) in order for risk assessments etc to be carried out. It comes to individual choice, work load. Whenever you feel ready

Not necessary before 12 weeks.  Depends on job.  I would consider the time needed to plan to cover while you are on leave.  I did not notify until around 24 weeks.

I would leave it until 12 weeks or so unless your job involves doing anything that may be dangerous to your pregnancy, or if you have any health issues and need to take time off.

With my first my assistant principal figured it out immediately. He knew we were trying and he could just tell (he had 5 kids). The second time around, I had different administrators and did not tell them until I felt I had to-around 12 weeks. I was trying to get a job at a new school, and I had let the other school know I was pregnant and wanted my admin to know in case they spoke with the other school. My AP wasn’t surprised bc she could tell I was starting to show.

I think it depends on your job and your relationship with your boss. I work at a very small nonprofit and I’m very close with my boss and his wife. I told them both very early on because I was just so excited and they’ve been asking when my husband I would be having kids so it wasn’t a complete shock to them. They were super happy for me

When I was working I had to tell my boss pretty early, like almost as soon as I knew.  There were chemicals that made me throw up and clients that I wouldn't touch.

I did it early, but I've also been sick. I wasn't obligated to do so, but I figured I might as well.

I told my boss within the week I found out (3/4weeks) because my job requires quite a bit of heavy lifting and physical work. So informing her was actually really good so then when it came to the heavy lifting I was given help so I wasn’t carrying it on my own and it meant less stress on me.

Most people tell their boss at 12 weeks.. although you don’t have to. It really does depend on what kind of work you do to. I.e office you sit down a lot anyway but if your doing manual labour then they have to take certain risk factors into consideration and you need to make sure you don’t over do it. Good luck xx
