By law idk but to me if I decided I didn’t want to marry him I’d give the ring back cause I wouldn’t want to keep it and to resale it would be wrong imo but to each their own.

It depends state to state but in most states by law the ring belongs to the one who paid for it (usually the man.) The ring is a seal of the contract (promise) that you enter into when you say yes to a proposal. If the contract is broken the ring goes back to the purchaser. Now after marriage I'm fairly certain the ring belongs to you and does not have to be given back if a divorce happens. I could be wrong about that one.
