How often do I wear a pad/tampon?

During my period, how often are you supposed to wear a pad/tampon? I was told not to wear one every day but if I don’t I would bleed into my underwear. Is that what people normally do? I know you aren’t supposed to wear one every day of the cycle, but what about ovulation?

You only wear them when you’re bleeding and spotting. Otherwise you’re wasting your money. 
You’re supposed to change them every 2-4 hours while bleeding.

I wear pads everyday when I’m on my period but when I’m not I don’t wear it.

Yes you where them every day you are on your period, just not every day of every month. Change them when needed but don’t leave them in longer than 8 hours

They were designed to stop blood from getting everywhere so where them when you are bleeding. I change my pad every time I go to the washroom while I’m on my period. When I used tampons, I changed them every 2 or 3 hours, but I don’t know how correct that is. I don’t use them anymore because they are uncomfortable for me 😊.  Hope that helps.
