Metformin

So I have been begging my doctor to put off prescribing metformin. I hate taking meds. Finally today at 33 weeks my fasting numbers have been creeping up with no diet change. I have lost weight over the past few weeks, so the doctor knows I am following my diet. I am just frustrated that no matter how healthy I eat I cannot control my numbers. Now I have weekly ultrasounds and will have to be induced. Who else is taking metformin? Have you noticed any side effects? I was totally diet controlled with my first so this is new to me.
