Is Amelia really the next “Jessica” ? Help

^ What my friend told me when i said that’s a name we’re considering if we have a girl. She said it’s a beautiful name but becoming so popular. (Now that I look at posts here I am noticing it a lot) 
I’m really wanting to honor my mom in a way that’s not using her actual name. My mom’s name is Melinda❤️ she is my best friend & hero. Amelia is *almost* an anagram (contains the same letters in different order) and they both share the “meli” bit. I don’t want her to be 1 of 7 Amelia’s in her class though... any thoughts? or suggestions of names that could honor the name Melinda? TIA 😊

Heck no! Jessica is a made up literary name. Amelia is a “real” name with real origins from real places. Really the comparison is in an insult to Amelia. 
Yes, it’s common. Personally I believe it to be very dramatic when people say “I don’t want her to be 1 of 7.” First of all, the average classroom ratio K-12 is about 30 kids. I promise you there will never be 7 other Amelia’s in her class at any age. Will there be perhaps one or two sure it’s a possibility depending on where you love and chance. Also, if you’re talking about being 1 of 7 in her graduating class that’s something I believe people need to get over as well. You cannot expect your kid to be the only “Tom” and “Jane” out of hundreds of kids. It’s not realistic. 
You’re priority should be to name her what you love regardless of the statistics of the name. Of course honoring your Mother too.

I had a similar dilemma with naming my daughter. My husband loved a top ten name and I was adamant about not using it because I didn’t want her to have a popular name. Well, we ended up going with that popular name and I have no regrets. My advice would be, don’t let the thought of other people liking the name affect what you name your child. Plus, you will come up with your own cute nicknames that will make her feel so unique. I think it’s a beautiful name and it’s a nice way to honor your mom.

Amelia is popular but not too bad. My kids are 2 and 5. We know hundreds of kids across playgroups and soccer, yet only one Amelia. Go for it if it feels right.

Amelia has been popular for a lot longer than people realize. It’s not just becoming popular and it isn’t trendy. Instead of comparing it to Jessica, I’d compare it to Elizabeth which is another name that’s been popular for a long time but is classic and timeless and beautiful and feminine now and always. 
I’d just go with it! If we have a second daughter, her name will be Amelia 🤷‍♀️
