Charging a SO for Work?

There was an interesting question on a local talk show this morning. I can’t seem to find an article on it, so I’m paraphrasing.

A woman had been dating a man for 9 months. She needed some home repairs done on her stairs, which is related to what he does for a living, so she asked if he could help out on his day off. He said, “sure no problem, if you go pick up and purchase all the supplies, I’ll do it for a discount. I’ll only charge you $495”. She thought it was wrong for her to have to pay since they were a couple.

*They didn’t go into detail on how extensive the work was, and I got the impression it was exclusively her home, not one they shared

Do you think he should have charged his girlfriend or done the work for free?
