Breast milk jaundice?

Question

Any other moms babies end up with breast milk jaundice ? Just found out tonight and wondering what everyone did. Doctor says stay with breast milk but I’m thinking it might be best to make the switch to formula. It’s been a hard day for sure 😭

We just went through this!! It is so hard! My son looked yellow until he was 8 weeks old. Remember that breast milk is the best thing for your baby and jaundice is just yellow skin. Push through! It will pass. Hugs!

Just nurse baby as much as possible, and spend some time sitting by a window for a little sunlight. It’s very common, and not a big deal at all.

Follow your doctor’s advice 😉. Breast milk jaundice goes away by around 12 weeks. As long as bilirubin levels are not dangerously high, it isn’t a big issue. I have always heard it is fine to keep breastfeeding. Why switch to formula when breastfeeding is working for you and your baby? 🙂

My daughter had this, and it cleared up in about 10 days. I got conflicting information from two different pediatricians. One said to formula feed only for 2-3 days, the other said to pump and mix my breast milk with formula for a couple days. All my research said to just continue breastfeeding as often as possible. So, I breastfed every 2.5 hours and supplemented with formula if she still seemed hungry, which was like maybe 3 times out of the whole 10 days. The more baby eats, the faster the bilirubin is flushed from their system.

My daughter had it! I fed her every two hours around the clock for a couple weeks. It was really rough but I didn't have to supplement and she gained really well.

My baby had it and i was told if I can feed her every 2 hours then I don’t need to supplement. But if she looks dehydrated or wasn’t eating well then I would need to. I made to wake her up and feed her every 2-2.5 hours and she was over her jaundice in about 3 days. Just keep feeding like you are and you’ll be fine!

Yeah, my baby had it. It cleared by itself within two weeks before her next appointment. Doc wasn’t worried and said she’d poop it out - she did!
