Long wait between scans - is this normal?

So I’ve just recently had my dating scan and all came back positive for which I am so pleased. However, my next scan is 8 weeks away which feels like a really long time to wait to see if everything is ok. Do you know if the nhs does any other checks on the baby in between - it sounds silly but I just need the reassurance to know my bean is still there.

I know how you feel had my first scan at 13 weeks. I am now 17 weeks and have my next scan due in October when I will be 21 weeks 😔 The wait is driving me crazy 😖 But I recently found out that Mothercare do a number of scans from dating the pregnancy to gender scans and loads more.

You’ll have a midwife appointment at 16 weeks where you listen to the heartbeat, but other than that, the only scans are dating between 8-12 weeks and then 20 week anatomy scan. I have booked a private scan for 16 weeks as I couldn’t wait til 20! And I had an early private scan at 6w4 x

Yeah I hated the long wait between scans! I didn’t even get my official 20 weeks scan till I was nearly 22 weeks. I’m 30 weeks now but booked a gender scan at 16 weeks to check on baby. At my 16 week midwife appointment I thought I would get to listen to the heart beat but was told they don’t listen until at least 23/24 weeks.

Fairly standard hun unless there are complications. Scans typically are at 12 and 20 weeks. At your 16 week midwife appointment they will likely listen to heart beat and there are other ways of monitoring healthy pregnancy that ultrasounds. You can always go to a private clinic for an ultrasound. We had one at 7 weeks purely because I'm impatient and couldn't wait that long lol x

I had an early scan at 6 weeks due to pain and spotting then at my dating scan i was 12+6. I was tempted to book a gender private scan but decide to wait as only have two weeks to go, I’ll be 20+1. I then have to have another scan at 26 weeks as i think they want to monitor growth due to high BMI and that’s when I see the consultant too. I’m quite lucky as haven’t had to book a private scan yet, but then it’s also because I haven’t had the most straightforward pregnancy.
