Cord blood banking

My mother in law has offered to pay for cord blood banking for our first baby...I’m not sure how I feel about it at all. I almost feel as if she is overstepping boundaries by offering plus I’m not convinced it is actually a useful thing to do. I would be more inclined to donate it (if we chose to do anything at all). I’m planning a home birth as well so it may not even be an option. What do you guys think? Should I be grateful for the offer? I’m just concerned it’s a bit controlling! Thanks.
