Deductible, who should pay?

Question

Should the father help pay for the deductible to have the baby? Parents together but not married and the mothers heath insurance doesn’t kick in until the $1500 deductible is paid before the baby is born. Father earns twice what the mother makes and is refusing to help pay the deductible because it is her insurance.

I can’t believe you’re in an actual relationship with him and he doesn’t want to help pay... I honestly would leave and put him on child support. I have a feeling he’s not gunna willingly help with anything. Let the court decide how much he needs to back pay regarding delivery. Keep track of everything you’ve paid for and everything he’s paid for...

Why wont dad pay what he can? Does he have a legitimate reason for saying no , or is he being an ass.  It seems like he's in the wrong one million percent , but I don't know the whole story.  What an awful stress to be carrying whilst pregnant! I'm so sorry !

I am so glad that I live in Canada, where we can have babies for free! To answer your question, though: since you aren't married, it is probably up to whoever is having the baby. Ideally, you would both pay the deductible equally. Is there a way you can do a legal challenge or something, since he is the father?

Unless he gets a court order to pay like child support umm it’s gonna be your bill honey your the pregnant one going to the doctor and giving birth

Wait, what!?! If you weren’t together I would still be saying he should help but could understand him being an arse about it... But you are together? Absolutely he should be paying half. 
I don’t understand the system over there as I’m in Australia and we have free health care, so I can’t offer much advice on what to do there, but if he is trying to shake his way out of this on the technicality that it’s your insurance then he doesn’t seem very reliable. We aren’t talking about buying a tv or car or anything... this is ensuring the safe delivery of your child. It just boggles my mind. I’m so sorry you are having to deal with this stress.

I would think that if people are truly together, they would both willingly share all joint costs.  But definitely he should help pay, since he helped make the baby!

In Maryland, it held up in court. My ex husband and I split and he was responsible for half of the monthly bills that were a result of the birth of our son. Good luck! I think it’s only right- he helped create the life.
