When ordering/purchasing things online, do you ask for replacements, yet still use original product?

Would you consider it honest/dishonest if you ordered or purchased something online, and say there was some minor thing not to your exact liking, so you call the company and ask them to replace said item? Especially if you know you’re going to use the damaged/imperfect product anyway?

I know somebody who does this frequently... and they tend to exaggerate the problem as well to get a replacement item or money back, and I just don’t know how to feel about it.

Granted yes, in some circumstances, if something is REALLY damaged or incorrect, then you should get a replacement or refunded, however, I feel like it’s abuse of the system in a way when done frequently and over minor things, and especially when the originally sent item is going to be used anyhow...
