Is $250/hour too much for a maternity shoot?

I've been looking around for a photographer to do my maternity photos in Nov. They would need to be indoors/in a studio. I started talking with one who's portfolio is impressive and could probably capture what I want. I'm very picky with a clear vision and have worked with many good and bad photographers in the past during my music career. She quoted me $250 for one hour and if I'm not mistaken she'd give me all the photos to select from. I'm a first time mom, so idk if this is a good price or not. Please help!

Honestly it bothers me how many people are voting that it’s too much. $250/hr is more than fair. You’re paying for their time and their talent. They will be putting way more than an hours work into it when you add it travel time and editing time. Editing a single photo can take hours. If they are offering you prints and not just digital photos, that price is even more justified.

That's high for where I'm from but it is dependent on your area. I would talk to a few other photographers and see what other prices are out there

I'm curious if all the people who voted that it was too much have actually worked with a professional photographer or if they just think $250 for photos is too much... $250 for special event photography is pretty expected from all the research I have done

For the area your in ( I noticed you’re in Asheville) I think that’s priced just about right. I used an Asheville photographer for my wedding and it was tough finding someone whose work I appreciated and could also afford.

I'm only paying $99 for newborns, but that's because I'm using a photographer that does deals with moms that deliver at my hospital. Her usual price per hour starts at $250, so I'd definitely say it's a good price.

I’m paying $600 for maternity photos and I get all rights to them so it sounds great to me!

That’s a very fair price. Remember it may only take her an hour to take the photos but it will take far longer for her to edit them.

I just think it's too high because you can literally take your own maternity pictures for free. It's a nice momento but not necessary. I didnt take any maternity pictures with any of my kids. I would rather spend 250 on clothes or a crib or something for the baby. But. If you have it then spend it how you want 🤷🏾‍♀️.
