SAHW: is your job to take care of the house/cook?

So I just quit my job and the only expectation my husband said is that I would help us eat out less... so more cooking/meal prepping. We don’t have kids, just two cats and a dog. I will probably end up taking the load of making sure our house is clean (which I did before but now more so). Just wanted to see your opinion... if he person who isn’t contributing financially should contribute in other ways.

I’m not sure what else you would do with your day if you didn’t help out in other ways? While I do believe that not ALL of the at home responsibility should be on you, most of it should. That goes also for if the guy is a stay at home guy. Whoever doesn’t contribute financially does most of the home work but the other should also contribute sometimes

As a house wife/SAHM I take so much pride in being able to keep the home tidy and dinner prepared. That doesn’t mean my husband doesn’t help out though. I’m not a maid. He will wash dishes randomly, do a load of laundry if he sees I’m behind & pick up the house. I would also go ahead and set expectations as far as money is concerned. I’ve seen some house wives feel almost trapped or like a kid because they don’t have complete access to funds. Just make sure you do to prevent any problems down the line.

When my husband became a doctor (he graduated med school debt free, and I am debt free from my degrees as well), we decided I could stop working my job (my income supported us through his med school) in order to pursue other interests. It was always the deal when I moved with him for med school that since I was sacrificing my time for that, that I’d be able to explore after. He had offered to hire a cleaning person during this time, but I declined. 
As a stay at home wife, my husband doesn’t demand or ask that I take care of everything on the home front. There is an expectation that I am working on commissions and projects that I want to work on, and it’s respected in the same way his work is. That being said, I am pretty ridiculous about wanting my home to be spotless, and I cook our meals because I was a chef before I went to grad school. These things aren’t the highest priority to him, but I do it because it makes me sane. So I put that I am a mix. It’s not my job, but I go ahead and do those things because I like to.

This sounds like a no-brainer. You chose to leave your job...you are not working to take care of children...
Yes it is now you responsibility to care for the house and cook. You literally have no other responsibilities.

Of course it would be like if your husband wasn’t working the expectation would be on him. Look at at this way why after working 8 hours should someone have to come home and cook when the other person was home/not working all day. It’s beyond unfair and will quickly start issues in the relationship

yes. I'm having to do that while being pregnant. its hard mentally to allow myself to be a homemaker but its very appropriate.

Both of you two live there so it should be both of you doing the work. But that's just my opinion

My hubby works and i take care of the house while he works.  We have a farm so i take care of our animals. Sometimes my hubby helps clean the house.
