Someone talk me down...

So, my husband, my almost 2 year old, my 9 year old pitbull, and I were walking in our neighborhood and this big ass pitbull that's off leash starts running towards us. My husband picks up our son since I'm the one holding our pitbull's leash. The owner of the dog makes no attempt to run or get his dog. He just yells "he's friendly."

Well, my dog is people friendly and small dog friendly, but he can get protective around big dogs. And regardless, I didn't feel safe having a big ass dog running across a street full speed towards me and my family.

So, I yell at the guy to get his dog and he does nothing besides continue to slowly walk towards us. By this time his dog and my dog are sniffing each other and a some growling is starting to happen.

My husband yells at the guys again and tells him "Hey hurry up and get your damn dog!!!" The guy stops and says "Don't be an asshole."

So long story short, words were exchanged, dogs were seperated, more words were exchanged, and I was worried it might get physical.

So, I kept telling my husband "let's just go and I'll call the cops." The guy says, "I am the police." I tell him, "Oh yeah, well I work for the Sheriff's Department and a cop should know better than tou have a dog off leash." He then questions me as to where I work, and I tell him, and then ask him the same, and he says DOJ. Which means he isn't a cop.

I ended up calling the local police departmenr while this was happening but they said to call the Humane Society.

I eventually got my husband to listen and we walked away as the jerk stared ua sown. But now I'm home, and fuming, and wondering if I should have done more or less or something.

Im also worried the guy might have followed us home from afar and my home or dog might be in danger. I got a really bad vibe from him and I don't think he's a good person.

Can anyone on here talk me down or give me good advice or something because I'm ready beyond pissed and worried and my husband is pissed and mad at me because he doesn't agree with how I handled the thing. I think he wanted to stand his ground and not walk away....

I love animals but there are leash laws for a reason and this shouldn't have happened if this guy had followed the law.
