A piece of paper does not define the relationship that is my marriage. I could literally not give any fucks about it.
My husband and I got married because it's what his parents wanted and because we are slightly religious.
If I could go back, I probably wouldn't have gotten married. It was just a bunch of unnecessary stress that led up to a day that had absolutely no effect on our relationship. We woke up the next day feeling exactly the same.

I never used to want to get married. But now I do, because I’ve met someone I whole heartedly (and a bit more) love. My main reason to get married is so I will be next of kin. If something ever happened to Owen I would be absolutely devastated, I’d never be whole again. But what would be worse is if something had happened, I had the opportunity to see him and I didn’t because I simply didn’t know. The thought of that, to me at least, is absolutely terrifying. I could just go down to the registry office and get married as soon as he gets back but I don’t want to do that, I want something symbolic of our love, and I want an event that we can remember forever. I don’t want to get married because of religion, I don’t want to get married because it’s what’s expected. I want to get married because I want to get married, and I want to get married because I want to be the first person that would be called in an emergency. It is a piece of paper to me, it’s knowing I’m next of kin, but the day itself is a celebration to me

And he is responsible for me when I’m sick or dying 
And he gets to decide medical recourse it I am incapacitated 
And he is not legally allowed to have sex with another women 
And he has equal share in our matrimonial home 
And legally we can spend each others money without asking... etc..

It is just a piece of paper, though if it's legally recognized. It doesn't make the relationship. It doesn't really add to a relationship. It doesn't really guarantee anything will work out. It's just a piece of paper. People give it more power than its worth to be quite honest.

I agree. To me, marriage is just about two families becoming one at the right time, like when you’re both in stable places in life. That’s how I’ve always looked at it. I think it can definitely depend though. Like especially if you’re from different countries. My cousin just got married a month ago and still lives here (America) and her husband is back in England and then once her visa stuff is all good, she’ll be moving there and gas to live there for 3 years to gain citizenship. Aaand that’s why I’m so grateful that my bf lives down the street from me and we basically live together.
