Cute or creepy?

My sister is my best friend. This woman has been there for me always. We were both ttc, but I got pregnant. Oh you should have seen how happy she was! She immediately went out to get me roses and bought baby cot(no joke)! She insisted on getting necessary nursery items, even when I told her that it was fine. She’s everything and more that one could want from a sister... I love my sister so much that I begged my husband to allow us to name our girl my sister’s name. My sister has been my rock... she takes my daughter like hers and I mean it! But it’s now freaking me out... I would go out with my sister and baby and my sister would introduce my baby as her baby. She uploads pictures everywhere of my baby, she takes my 8 months old to hers and beg that baby girl spends 2 days with her, I always agree... matter of fact my sister made a nursery room in her own home for my baby. Now here’s the thing, yesterday we were together and my sister was playing with my baby as normal, but what caught my attention was that my sister kept telling my baby “mama mama. Mama loves you. Come to mama. You are mama’s favourite girl”... constantly referring to herself as my baby’s mama. I know this is supposed to be cute, but it’s creeping me out!

That is definitely a little creepy and concerning....I would try to sit her down and reestablish boundaries. Let her know that you are thankful that she loves your daughter like her own, but she needs to remember that she is in fact your daughter and not hers. Good luck!

This is definitely not normal behavior.. you should try to talk to your sister- it seems she is suffering from some type of trauma. Perhaps something could have happened to her that she hasn’t told anyone about, or perhaps she I struggling with the fact that she has yet to conceive. If she really means that much to you, you should address it- I’m sure you should feel comfortable enough to.

This seems like one of those stories you hear where they end up kidnapping the baby and go into hiding and raise the baby as their own.. sounds borderline psychopath to me, I'm sure she's a great person but that's way to creepy

I think it’s way too much definitely weird and creepy I’d keep an eye out !!! Any chance she might be sleeping with your husband and feels your daughter hers ? It happens not saying it’s your case but I think it’s weird and creepy

Yeah that’s hard because you don’t want to hurt your sister and she obviously is hurting from not having a baby of her own. I would say as far as calling herself mama (because that would be my biggest issue) to have a fun day where y’all pick out an aunt name for her together and can make a cute onesie or something. So she can officially have a fun different name to refer to herself as but is still special to baby. The nursery doesn’t bother me because my son has a nursery set up at both of his grandparents houses so if they spend time there it’s easiest to have stuff already there. How often is she wanting to keep the baby for days at a time?  I wouldn’t want to leave my baby that often but it’s easy to get guilted into it. I would just say that I need some time with baby (especially if you work) that time together is priceless but to schedule out specific days when she can take them. Maybe like one night a week and then you can have a nice date night each week? I hope you get it worked out because I would hate for a relationship to get ruined because of miscommunication or jealousy.

It's one thing to love your daughter, it's an entirely different thing to introduce your baby as her own and refer to herself as mama, totally inappropriate and you are well within your rights to address this with her and set boundaries.

I think shes probably dying to have her own baby and it’s overdoing it a little bit with yours.
I can understand that you feel it’s a tad too much but too much love won’t hurt your baby....
Once she gets her own she will calm down.

It’s a little too far. This sounds like what happened with my stepdaughter with her mom and her mom’s cousin (also the godmother). The cousin never referred to herself as momma (eek) but took my stepdaughter in like her own. The cousin would babysit and stay over every weekend, stepdaughter had her own room and went on vacation with them. That’s not naming half of it but you get the picture. It became a problem when my stepdaughter got older (tween years) and the cousin started to put too many of her two cents in about the mom’s parenting and decisions. I don’t know how to bring up boundaries to your sister without her feelings getting hurt but you should try to set some now.
