Punishment for pupil suicide
Okay so I’m going to talk about something really personal and something that’s hitting close to me right now. My partner’s dad works as a headteacher in a school where, about two weeks ago, a child committed suicide. At school. There’s been lots on Facebook (that I’m trying my best to ignore) calling on him to resign, some even going as far as to say he should be charged with manslaughter. All of this to do with bullying the child’s father said he experienced from his peers at school. Lots of staff (including him) witnessed what happened and them, as well as police, first response, and paramedics are all going through specialist psychiatric help because of it
What should happen to headteachers in a case where a child commits suicide?
What, if any, charges should be pressed?
Obviously I’m incredibly biased. But what do you think? I had a girl in my class who killed herself 18 or so months ago and we saw nothing like this, the whole community came together to mourn and honour her
