How hard are prefolds

This will be my first child and although we aren't struggling financially I have found they seem to be the cheapest option, and know that anything could happen. We decided to cloth diaper due to my SO's sensitive skin which he happened to pas to his first child who had reactions to almost all disposable diapers. I just want to know with this being my first if prefolds would be a good option, or if it might be to difficult. I do have some pockets and aio but I'm really wanting to give prefolds a try.

UPDATE: I have decided we will definitely be using prefolds. What are the best brands that were absorbent, and covers that you've used?
