Is insulin given based only on fasting?

I have been getting all my fasting blood sugar in the range but my after meals are between 130-140. My doctor wants me to attend the insulin training session this week just based on my fasting sugar saying I might need it as I progress through my pregnancy. My fasting is below 90 and Im currently 29 weeks. Im not sure what to do. Please help.

These are the ideal numbers according to my specialist. I have to record it 1 hr from my 1st bite. 140 seems high

Below 90 for fasting is what it's supposed to be. Then, after eating, it's supposed to be below 120. 130-140 doesn't seem too incredibly high, but it depends on what you're eating. Why is the doctor considering insulin before a medication like glyberide or some other diabetes med?
