Natural or epidural?

I’ve had 2 vaginal births with epidurals, but am considering having a natural labor this time around. What are y’all ladies going to do? 🤔😊

I’m going all natural! I have a lot of support and have done a lot of research, both of which I believe are key to being successful. My support team, including midwife, doula, husband, mom, are all 100% on board with a med free no intervention labor and delivery and they believe in me. I have spent countless hours reading (Ina May gaskins guide to childbirth is a good one) watching natural birth videos on YouTube has also been inspiring and encouraging. You have to trust that your body and baby know how to do it, it is however a natural thing anyway. I feel so confident that I’m not even worried about the pain. I know it’s going to hurt like a B but it’s temporary and I can handle it. Fear makes pain. If you want to do it, you can do it. Iv heard it’s the most empowering thing you will ever do.

My first was a vaginal with no epidural. I loved (yes I’m weird I know) the experience. Being in control and moving however was comfortable for me. My sisters freaked me out so much about it and the “ring of fire” that it honestly didn’t seem that bad to me. Getting out of your head and breathing are huge. I just kept telling myself that my body was literally created to do this. Plus the second that sweet baby is on your chest you forget about everything anyways (till you have to shower or go to the bathroom for the first time). I’m having twins this time around, vaginal is the goal, but my Dr is highly recommending an epidural in case second baby flips and he has to “go get it” (as he put it 😂). So as much as I’d love to do natural again, I’m coming to terms that will more than likely not be the situation for me.

I’ve done both and far prefer natural. You have control, and honestly, our bodies are built for this!!  Women are so strong, they just doubt themselves!!!

I tried really hard to go all natural with my last. I made it to 9 cm and my doctor asked me if I was sure I didn’t want any pain meds to which I caved. Too late for an epidural so I got a spinal block. I’m definitely trying to be more prepared and do more research on techniques this go around to see if I can make it.

My first baby I had gotten induced and got the epidural and labored only 8 hours. With my daughter I was in labor 28 hours and I had the epidural I was in pain from laying down sooo long. I know I’d be able to take the pain at least for a long time so that’s why I’m thinking of a natural birth. I would love to hold that against my husband tbh (lol). But it’s definitely a consideration thank y’all for letting me know your thoughts & experiences 😊

I had my 2 year old med free and plan to do the same this time. I’m really hoping for a much shorter labor though that’d be great! 😂 18 hours first go round, even half that would be lovely!

I’d prefer to have a natural birth because all my friends and relatives who’ve had epidurals complain about the side effects years after having it. Plus, my body has a history of resisting pain medication. So I have a pretty high pain threshold. I just need the freedom to move around, lol.
But I never say never and I’m open to an epidural worst case scenario.

I had epidural with my first and had a stressful birth. He was 9 pounds 11 ounces so I’m glad I had the epidural. I also really want to try to go natural this time around so it’s definitely something I’ll be talking about with my doctor.

I would prefer natural if there’s no complications, I had prepared for a natural home birth with my son, read all of the books and studied the pain management techniques but in the end there were some issues and I ended up transferred to the hospital got an epidural and eventually a c section. This time I am preparing for a natural birth again if there are no complications, but I do think it’s a question or personal preference also, there’s nothing wrong if a woman chooses to use all pain relief options available or even chooses a caesarean as it’s our bodies and ultimately we have the right to make those decisions for ourselves. It’s just personally a natural birth resonates with me.
