If your future children could potentially have the same disease your first child has, would you still want to have more kids?

I'm just curious to know. I had no idea my daughter would be born with hirschsprungs disease since the disease cannot be detected in scans. The good thing is once she has her next surgery in a few months, then she'll be living a normal lifestyle. Two days after she was born she had already had two surgeries, it was hard for us to watch and I can't imagine the pain she may have been in. So happy to be able to take her home, I'm just worried about how likely it will happen again. I love my daughter to bits and wouldn't change her for the world ❤️

I’d probably do IVF next time if my first had a genetic disorder. Simply so they could test the embryos before hand. It’d be costly. But, I feel worth it!

You should speak with your daughter’s doctor about the possibility of future children having the disease, assess the risk and make a decision from there. 
Personally, no, I wouldn’t risk it. That has always been my thought process. My husband and I agreed early on that if we ever had a child with major medical ailments we wouldn’t continue having more children due to the potential for bringing another unhealthy child into the world but this is a decision that only you and your partner can make.

You should speak with geneticist and your child's doctor. My 2nd child was born with Duplication of chromosome 22, and hirschprungs disease too. We found out through testing that myself nor my husband carried this disorder. He basically formed wrong. This made us feel more comfortable with trying again. I am currently 33 weeks pregnant with our son and he has no genetic problems.

I think it depends on the disease honestly. Is it life threatening? Can it be treated? Will they live a normal life? What are the risks? What are the statistics of another kid having it?

I have Hirschsprung’s disease and as a child I was told I had a 50% chance of passing it on. I have since been told that the number is no where near that high. 
I have an 18 month old who doesn’t have it thankfully. 
From my perspective though, my hirschsprungs was very severe (worst case in 20 years in my country) and although I had some difficult times I wouldn’t trade my life for anything. And I will continue to have kids (even if the chance was 50%) because my life with hirschsprungs isn’t hard. It’s all I’ve known and I live a healthy normal life.
