Need answers

So today my boyfriend and I had sex, and I started bleeding on him, we both thought that I got my period. But when I went home, I wasn’t bleeding anymore, and I felt something wasn’t right when I saw that the blood was bright red, it wasn’t how my period blood usually looks, and this isn’t my first time having sex. What could this be? Should I got to the doctor?
