Trouble with “long” distance relationship... help please

If any of you guys have been in a long distance relationship before or is in one now please give me advice on how to make this relationship work out... Me and my boyfriend have been together for half a year now we live a little over three hours away I know it’s not really a “long” distance but when we both work full time jobs it seems like it. At first it was fine we made it work I would go to see him every weekend and when I couldn’t he would come and see me. It worked well like that until a girl at work quit and I got more hours meaning less time to see him. Now it’s putting a stress on our relationship.... He is constantly getting upset and mad about it which I understand I do too but he acts like it’s my choice and that I can just tell my boss to screw off and that I won’t work all the hours I do. We have talked about moving in together at the end of the year to be closer together so he always tells me I can quit my job that I don’t need one. That he will provide for both of us with the job he has(which he has a great job money and benefit wise) but he doesn’t understand that I wanna save up more money before we move in together no matter how many times I tell him.

What can I do to make this distance between us easier and what can I do to be able to work this “bump” in the relationship work out through this crazy time in both our lives......
