I might want a new doctor? 19 weeks!

I've seen my doctor four times already at 19 weeks, I'm not sure if I'm happy with the care she's giving me. She never tells me what to expect from an appointment and if she mentions anything that's going to happen it's unclear when it will happen until last minute. I feel like I'm going into my visits blind. The past two appointment I've gone in under the impression I'd be given an ultrasound, but two months later and I still haven't seen him or her. Have been told I need to schedule a separate appointment and feel like I'm just waiting for no good reason. That being said I've already gotten comfortable at this hospital paid a first delivery bill and am nervous about a getting a new doctor and a whole different experience.

Find another dr that delivers at that hospital and see them. It's much better to switch now than later in your pregnancy.

I agree with Morgan that you should speak up. It's really not fair to expect your Dr to know what you expect from her if you're not asking questions or communicating your concerns/needs to her. Just ask her, "What will we be doing at my next appointment?", "When can I expect a ultrasound?", etc., etc. Its your job as the patient to be asking these questions and her job to answer and make sure you understand said things. I would stay under the care of this office and give the doc another chance by doing this stuff.

If you're already comfortable, my advise is to speak up and ask questions at your appointments. Ask her when she normally would give a second trimester ultrasound and then ask her when you should set up an appointment. I was like you with my first pregnancy, but now I'm not afraid to ask a million and one questions at every appointment (if necessary), because I can't do last minute appointments and changes and I also like to be "in the know" about how my pregnancy IS going and how it SHOULD be going. She, as your doctor, should be very understanding about any concern you have and any question you have regarding your pregnancy or appointments. If you still do not feel like you're getting the help you deserve, I would see of there's another Dr in that office or that uses the same hospital and set up an appointment to meet with them.
