Am I in the wrong here??

Question

Okay, so my fiancée and I have been planning on getting a dog. 
NOW that the dogs are ready to be taken home, I found out I am pregnant. The dog is a pittbull, and I am saying that for size reference. 
We have a 2x1 apartment. It’s not huge but it’s not tiny. 
I am already tired all of the time, and I honestly do not want to be waking up with a puppy when I hardly sleep well as it is. I want to be able to sleep while I can before I have an infant. 
Also, I brought it up to him that I don’t want to have to wake up a sleeping newborn to take a dog out to use the restroom. Or I don’t want to have to take a newborn out with my if it’s cold. And can you imagine how hard it’s going to be to pick up after a dog with a newborn in my arms?? 
He told me he didn’t want to talk to me because finally when it was something he “wanted” he couldn’t get it. 
It’s not like I’m just saying no, I’m explaining to him why I don’t think it’s a good idea. Now, maybe if we lived in a house with a backyard because that would be way easier, but this way it’s just not gonna work like that. 
I even brought up, what if the baby is sleeping, and someone knocks on the door or the dog can hear the neighbors above us and starts barking.. they’re loud dogs and sound carries in this apartment. I would be one angry mama if my infant couldn’t sleep because of a loud dog. 
Is there any way to compromise on this? I do want him to be able to have a dog like he wants, I just don’t see it being able to happen right now.

If it’s something your husband really wants, then he should have no problem taking care of the dog himself! It’s not solely your job! Just make it known that he is responsible for the dog’s care!

Honestly I wouldn’t want that size dog without a yard. Also, isn’t it additional money to have an animal in an apartment? Having a baby is expensive enough without adding a new puppy that’ll need regular vet visits, food, puppy pads, kennel etc. I’m sorry but I don’t think there is much of a compromise.  The mature decision would be to not get the dog.

I think your reasoning is completely sensible, especially if you’re talking about s puppy because that will be super exhausting! If he doesn’t want to give up on getting a dog, he needs to help come up with some solutions to your concerns instead of just complaining that you’re shooting down the idea.

It can work but all the work shouldn’t fall on you. He can help and with good training you won’t have problems. I would hire a private trainer to be able to train quickly and efficiently but he has to step up and do a lot of the work

I think you’re completely justified. We have a Siberian husky that we got as a puppy and she was a handful and super expensive for like the first year. We also lived in an apartment when we got her and I got pregnant when she was around 6 months. We’ve made it work and I’m glad we have her, but things also got significantly better with juggling the dog stuff once we moved into a rental house with a yard and she got older. It’s also fair for him to be disappointed too though if this was something y’all agreed on that he was looking forward to. I wouldn’t just dismiss his feelings either, but it still should be a conversation between y’all. And ultimately if he wants the dog, as someone said, he should also try to provide solutions for juggling both the newborn and the puppy. Maybe try proposing a compromise to him?

I think a great compromise would be to adopt a dog that’s a little older and already housebroken. You don’t need an old dog, literally like 7 months so it’s still a puppy but a lot easier on both of you. Having kids and dogs is fine, don’t stress about it too much. It will keep your husband happy and gives you guys some practice before baby gets here.

Not wrong, definitely should be discussed. If he really wants a dog right now it needs to be his responsibility whenever he’s home. Have you thought about getting a young adult dog that’s already been housebroken and won’t need to go outside constantly?

He needs to be willing to talk with you about each of your concerns. I'd say that is a good goal to get out of an apartment and into a house - where you can have a dog much more easily, one day. Puppies are a TON of work and an apartment is tough for that breed.
