Is a taking a break same as its over?

I've been having problems in my relationship for several months and today my boyfriend deciedes that he needed time off, for me that is that my relationship is over. We created several things together and also he was like a father for my 4year old. Its hard but i feel like crap. He doesn't know what he wants and i asked him straight out if he wanted to ended it or not but he only said he needs time. What should i do?!!!!

When my husband and I were dating, we went on a "break" for about 10 months. We still basically acted like we were together the entire time anyway. But we were young and he needed time to I guess figure out what he wanted. We did end up back together & we got married 4 years later. Break doesn't always mean breakup, but most of the time it does.

Id would respect his decision and see how you feel I had an x and we took a break as some call it and I ended up realizing I didn't need him and he evidently realized the same thing and we haven't talked since and soon after I met my husband.

Respect him and give him time if you think the relationship is worth it, if not, tell him you have to move on.

A break, from my experience, doesn't mean it's over. It's means to me that I need space, to think, to feel, to see things and etc. I've taken one break in my 6 year relationship because he was enabling his drug addicted mother. It was tearing our relationship apart and when I had space to breathe, I could communicate better.

I realized I didn't want to lose him.
