Depression?

Question

Is anybody suffering from depression while being pregnant?  I've had it in the past and it has really crept up on me.  I feel like a horrible mom and wife right now.  When I reached out to my husband to tell him how I felt he made me feel worse.  I feel like with a testing toddler and a new school year about to start (I am a teacher) along with being pregnant my patience are shot and I am sad all the time.  Am I alone?

You aren't alone! I was hit big time with depression when we moved cross country last year. I went on meds but didn't like side effects ether. I started using aroma therapy with essential oils instead and it's really helped me. Being pregnant now has been draining emotionally for me I also feel like a horrible mom most days to my 3.5 yr old and I know my husband bears the brunt of my outbursts and crying. I go to therapy every other week and that helps too.

You are not alone. I've been dealing with a low level of depression for years that's well controlled with a low dose of medication, but being pregnant has really thrown me for a loop, mood-wise. It's hard to tell what's normal pregnancy moodiness and what's actual depression! If you have a psychologist or psychiatrist you can check in with, consider making an appointment, or try reaching out to a new therapist if even just to talk for a few sessions--that can be really helpful, I think. Also, if crying makes you feel better, go ahead and have a good cry. And no matter what, try not to beat yourself up over how you feel; so much of it is out of your control right now!

I'm right there with you. Before this pregnancy I was coming to the realization that I should probably be medicated (depression/anxiety/chronic migraines all tied to my menstrual cycle). Now I'm not on as much of a roller coaster but I'm definitely more sensitive and weepy. I also notice that for me, my mood symptoms are worse when I'm eating wheat(gluten).

I feel the exact same. I have been on depression meds for over ten years, only stopping while pregnant and breastfeeding. My first pregnancy was fine- I feel like the pregnancy hormones helped keep me balanced somehow? This pregnancy (4 years later) seems to be off to a rough start. I can already feel the effects from going off my medicine and I feel down and my patience is thin! I get irritated so easy and find myself crying a lot. I just keep praying for patience and when I get too down I remember that although the feelings are very real- at another moment in time I was very happy and I will be back there soon. And this is all for a very good cause! Also- there is no shame in going to a counselor or whatever for help! I hope you feel better! 💜

You are not alone! Saturday I cried all day...literally ALL DAY! Couldn't snap out of it. Most days are ok but some are not. I plan on seeing someone since I recently lost my dad and am still reeling from that. Add pregnancy hormones onto already having low level depression issues...it's a perfect storm. Do what you can to work it out w a counselor, they may recommend medication but also ask how to communicate w ur husband so he will understand how you're feeling. It's tough that ur going through it already and him not understanding makes it so much harder.

What did you do to get over it in the past? With a father who is clinically depressed I've got sympathy for people dealing with it. Just try to remember you aren't alone (biggest lie Satan tries to tell you) and God's got you! Try to enjoy the last few weeks before school starts! Go do something for yourself. 😊

No your not alone, I was in antidepressants last year n the side affects drove me nuts n now sometimes I feel like is coming back but u have to think is also ur hormones u can't say is all depression, if talking to ur husband doesn't help find someone else or even a therapist but is not going to end cuz our hormones r constantly going up n down throughout the entire pregnancy, I have 2 boys 7 & 5 n sometimes think that I can't do this n I'm just tired all the time but after all is done n u have ur baby in ur arms u will feel different, u have the right to sometimes feel helpless u r pregnant n that is part of the whole processes n is ok if u think u need help don't feel afrai to ask ur family, it always help me when I talk to my mom, she gives me that snap out of it conversation n makes me realize that is not me, n it does help. Good luck n stay strong I know exactly what u r going through n crying helps too is ok to cry take care. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
