19 Weeks?!? What!

My doctor is making me wait till 19 weeks for my first ultrasound! With my first I had one at 8 weeks and 13 weeks. (I have a new doctor and insurance) She said unless they find anything on the genetic testing for have any problems finding the heart beat they normally don't do them... Any other Moms going through this? I believe this is due to my insurance coverage.

Also, see if there is a pregnancy center in your area. We have a few around here that does free ultrasounds. I actually have another ultrasound Monday so that my hunny can go.

I had this issue yesterday.
My ob wanted to wait til I was 12 weeks just to see me. I shut that down super quick and told them that is extremely unacceptable! So the closest I could get in is 2 weeks from now at 9 weeks.
Reason behind mine was "Dr. Bendt likes to meet his patients when they are 10 weeks. Nothing can be seen on the ultrasound at 6 weeks. And you can't hear a heartbeat.  He's on call all next week at the hospital and he's full that next week. The soonest I can get you in is 9 weeks, "
I honestly wanted to remind her for a 4th time that I am a high risk pregnancy and I need some sort of reassurance.
Honestly push comes to shove I have concerns...I may just go to the er and claim I have bad cramping. Just so they can do the blood draws, and the ultrasounds to let me know if everything is okay. I know a lot of women who Do that.

Yep. The standard for my ob is 20 weeks and that's it unless issues

My husband is military so I have tricare and I go to the military hospital and I have to wait till I'm 20 weeks too.

My midwife only wants me to have one unless I become high risk.  It was the same way with my first.  I would really like to have one more during my pregnancy though :(

My midwife is the same, and I'm not high risk or anything, so it doesn't bother me.  My only ultrasound is going to be my 18 week one, and that's how I want it. There's some research out there about the risks of frequent exposure to ultrasounds, and their thinking is, nature is going to take it's course with or without an ultrasound.  Again, this is all if you are low risk.  With my first, my doctor did sooo many ultrasounds, and with each one he nitpicked about everything, like  "he's measuring too small, you'll probably lose it", " the heartbeat is too slow", then towards the end, the ultrasounds showed that "the baby was too big" and there was "too much fluid", and "it looks like he has Downs, let's take another blood test just to be sure".  He turned out just fine!  So in my experience, ultrasounds create unnecessary worry for me.

I'm having to wait till 17wks! BUT I have my first appointment with dr next Tuesday and will remind him that I'm a high risk (he wasn't my dr last time) maybe they'll move the US up some!

That's complete bs!! I just had my first ultrasound yesterday transvaginally. I have a VERY tipped uterus which makes it harder to see and hear the baby's heartbeat but we did, CLEAR AS DAY. Heart rate was 123 bpm. I am now 6 weeks 6 days today. My ultrasound placed me at a day further along than what we had thought.
