Fit/Absorbency

So I really do love the Alva's I have. I never have a problem at night and the diapers contain those explosive poops well. I do almost always get leaks during the day, however. I've tried a variety of things and it seems that they only thing that works is double stuffing, which makes for a very bulky diaper during the day plus I am worried that if I need to do this now at 12 weeks old (I have been double stuffing for a few weeks now) what will I do when he's older and has a larger bladder? When I double stuff I use a 4 layer bamboo with a microfiber on top closest to the baby. I also have some 3 layer bamboo I have paired with the 4 layer to try for slightly less bulky double stuffed diapers but it's still pretty bulky. If I try to single stuff I am changing his diaper every hour it seems, though some double stuffed don't feel particularly heavy my little boy isn't a fan of being damp at all so he definitely let's me know. The edges of his onesies are often wet if I don't double stuff no matter how I try and mess with the fit. How I snap depends on how many inserts, the photo here shows a double stuffed diaper. I have not yet tried using a prefold but we have plenty from when he was tiny.

Is it normal to have such a heavy wetter at this age? What did you do? Are there ways to prevent the wicking on the onesies? He's in 3-6 primarily but some of his clothes are 6-9 already. I attribute some of that to the extra length from the cloth diapers.
