Are my cramps nornal?

I got my period when I was 11 and I remember hardly ever having to take anything for my cramps I mean u had them but they were so minor that I could almost ignore them. Flash forward to when I turned eighteen and all of sudden I started getting some pretty bad cramps. Like so bad that I had to make sure to take pain meds every four hours. Still to this day my cramps are still this bad. Im 23 btw. My cramps are so bad that I have to call off work sometimes cause I can't leave my bed because of the pain. I cannot do anything without some pain reliever. It only last for the first couple days of my period also. Is this normal?
