Not producing enough?

Question

Had a c section at 39 weeks pregnant baby is currently 8 days old. And I feel like I'm barely making enough milk. If anything 1 oz. I do 15-20 minutes on each boob. I don't feel the let down or anything my breasts barely get hard there mushy. I don't know if the c section has to do with different hormones or what? So I'm supplementing with enfamil so that she gets what she needs to being satisfied. I just feel ashamed that I'm not making enough. It's already day 8! Any suggestions?

Breastfeed on demand it works. Some women rake longer for their milk to come in. You can also talk to your local breastfeeding group or nurse

I also had an emergency c section and had supply issues which meant I had to start using formula in the hospital. 
A lactation consultant suggested I let him feed 10 minutes on each breast and then top up with formula, and pump 15 minutes each side at every feed. It was tough, my supply increased but I'm still having to top up with formula. At least baby is getting some breastmilk though!

Is there any reason why you're pumping? I would just breastfeed and hold off on pumping for a few weeks. Newborns have tiny tummys and can only hold a small amount of milk, that's why they eat so often.

If you go online and find a recipe for lacation cookies and get the CORRECT YEAST  it can help with your production and drink plenty of water and pump after every feeding and just relax! Stress and no sleep can cut your supply down dramatically! Try it it helped me when my daughter was born at 29 weeks and I had to pump for her it was extremely difficult but the cookies saved me!

I had a c section at 36 weeks with my twins and was having the same issue the lactation specialist said typically by seven days after you can tell whether your supply will be enough or not and unfortunately mine wasn't and still isn't so I supplement with Similac Neosure. She told me its probably a hormonal problem and there's nothing that can really be done about it. I know lots of woman swear by natural remedies but I didn't try any of that. You could look into it if you wanted. Don't feel bad about yourself it's not your fault and baby is still getting what it needs :)

I had a c section with my twins, I had them at 33 weeks, their a week & 2 days old today. I would pump to help your milk come in, I had great milk supply after my other two pregnancies, but wasn't sure if I would this time because this time aS a c section. The first time I pumped I got 1 oz. I kept pumping every 2 hours for 10 minutes, & everytime the amount I got increased. My babies are premature, they can latch on, but they only breast feed for 5 mins at a time, but their doing good at it. Within just a couple days I was pumping a lot more. Now everytime I pump I get about 5-7 ounces, my babies are in the NICU so I pump & store it to bring to them. If your not breast feeding often I would def Pump, even if they are pumping in between will help your milk to come in. Goodluck!!

If your breasts feel soft it means you've established your supply, it's normal! The milk is produced as your baby drinks, not much is stored in your breasts. The more often you feed the better at this point, your baby has a tiny stomach and might need to feed every hour at certain times of day, less often at others.
