I got my paraguard back in June of this year. The insertion was uncomfortable and there were some awful cramps, but I was otherwise fine at the end of the appointment. I had gotten a ride from a friend, and we had planned to get lunch when she picked me up. We stopped for gas first, and I ended up puking in a gas station trash can.

She took me home, and the whole rest of the day I felt horrible, with cramps and nausea keeping me from eating or resting. The next few days were pretty bad too, but not nearly as bad as the first. I was very worried that something was wrong, since my doctor didn't mention nausea as a side effect. However, I did some research and it wasn't unheard of, so I pushed through. After those first several days, my body thankfully returned to normal and the paragard has worked great for me!
