Is raising a dog similar to being pregnant?

I have a long time friend, and her dog recently dog ran over by her when she was backing up and didnt survive. Were currently talking about it and she says that it's like being pregnant after also saying her dog was like her child(which I get 100% dogs are part of the family, and can be like children) but the part about it being similar to pregnancy really just hit a nerve. I want to know peoples opinions on this, is it truly like being pregnant? I'm only bothered by it due to having been pregnant three times in the past, and my most recent baby Is less than a week old so I remember being pregnant like it was yesterday.
